Lent Trifecta.

That’s right folks…it’s Ash Wednesday, and I am giving up *3* things for Lent.  More on that at the end of the post.

Left off prepping for my Express Spin class at the YMCA…headed out the door and munched on my other half of my Toffee Buzz Clif from this morning:

I was all decked out in my winter gear (from the waist up)….these winters are rough.

Gotta rock the GaGa Stunna shades. (And knee strap for the stupid achey knee 😦 )

Express Spin was AWESOME today!!!  We had 12 people which is amazing for a 12:15 lunch class.  I was super stoked.  We were also super SWEATY.  I try to do only the most intense and challenging songs during these shorter classes so that the participants still get the intensity and benefits of the 60 minutes class.

Convinced Christie to come home with me for her lunch break, and treated us to a yummy meal:

Boca Burgers on Arnolds Thins….fresh veggies with the LAST (major sadness) of my Sabras Hummus…and my last Veggie Stix:

I spread some Light Swiss Laughing Cow on top….it MAKES this “Burger” complete.

Talk about some major yum.

Christie approved!!!  Look at Sam, he is in mid-bark/food excitement.  He wanted some veggie burger lovin’, too!!!

Dessert was in order, of course.  Crumbled a Black Bean brownie in a bowl with some berries…

Then (as if it needed anything) melted and drizzled some of this nut-butter joy:

Yea.  It was pretty much as heavenly as it looks.  *drool*

Finished working on some CD’s, and then whipped up a protein shake to take and have at work for my snack pre-dinner!  This baby had:

  • 1/2 Cup Frozen Blueberries
  • 1/2 Cup Frozen Strawberries
  • 1 Scoop Natural Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1 Cup Skim Milk
  • 1 Cup Ice

Yummmmm!

I will be having dinner at work which will most likely be Panera (Panizzle) …photos forthcoming!

Now, onto my Lent Trifecta!  I have decided to give up *3* things over the next forty days.  They are:

  • Splenda

Splenda is a beast I have went back and forth went for quite some time now.  I have read both good and bad things, but at the end of the day…it is still an artificial sweetener, that our body doesn’t even digest.  I will be sticking with Truvia/Stevia from here on out.

  • Meat

First let me say that I am not vegetarian.  I just prefer the veggie options over meat the majority of the time, and rarely if ever eat red meat/pork.  When I do eat meat it is lean poultry/fish.  I would like to see how my body does all veggie though, so I am embracing it for Lent!

  • Snacking Post Dinner

Ok, there may have been several un-documented snacks that were feasted upon right before bed.  I have to break myself of this habit.  Grabbing a handful of cereal here, or a couple of crackers there doesn’t appear to be that bad…but when it is happening every night, it becomes a problem.  I will almost always have dessert, but after that….NO snacking.

So the question for this evening is simple.

What are you giving up for Lent? Religious or not, I think it is a way to challenge our bodies that much further, and holds ourselves accountable!

I would love it if you could post a sample of the playlists that you use for your classes. BTW love your blog!

  3. I’m giving up sweetener in my coffee. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but I drink a lot of coffee!

  4. Matt

YAY!!!!!!!!…millions of cute little animals are thanking you . Be sure to get a good B complex, so your body can utilize protein and multi vitamins are animal based, unless it states vegetarian (you don’t really need one with the way you’ve been eating). Express Spin was awesome…thanks! 😀

    • Thanks for coming!!! You coming to H.I.I.T. tomorrow night?!?! We are doing Tri-Sets of every exercise, with opposing muscle groups working on each muscle. Basically 6 sets per muscle group, muhahahahahaha.

You guys are going to hate what I learned last weekend, in a GOOD way. 😉

I also plan to give up latenight snacking!

  6. Nice calves!
I’m not giving anything up for lent per se, because I’m not a practicing Catholic, Christian, or anything right now so I feel kind of hypocitical doing it 😦
But I aaaaam giving up random snacking for the hell of it. Actually it’s because I need to lose these last 10 by May (when I turn 28 HOLLA).

  7. Thanks for the Twitter follow! The Boca burger/LC cheese combo is a personal favorite, so I would have loved to join you for lunch!

Wow – your Lent Trifecta is impressive – I wish you the best! For Lent, I’m “closing the kitchen” after 10PM.

I look forward to reading more of your posts!

  8. Check our your hot calves!! 🙂

My church doesn’t do Lent but every year I’ve thought about doing it and then always missed it. And now here it is again and I still don’t know if/what to do!

I like your three though! Good luck!

    • I am just doing it to “challenge” myself and make myself that more accountable. I hope that after 40 days, I can continue the “sacrifices” LOL to the calves…I can assure you it is just because they were in extension. You should totally give something up, it is sort of fun. I guess it’s a “blogger” type of fun though…the same way oatmeal is fun to us?!?! We are just sick individuals basically. 😛

Good luck with your sacrifices. You over achieve even in Lent. WOW!
I second Jackie’s suggestion about posting your playlists.

I agree with a couple of the other posts – Awesome Calves!

I’m not Catholic so I’m not giving up anything for Lent but it’s fun hearing about it from other people!

I’m brand new to your blog, definitely impressed. What exactly are Arnold Thins? They look almost like pita halves. Are they by chance whole grain, or even better; gluten free? u got urself a new follower 😉

    • I am having an Arnolds Sammie for lunch, and I will make sure to take pictures of the packaging so you can see. They aren’t gluten free unfortunately, but they are whole wheat and completely delicious. Best part is you can get them at practically any grocery store! I got mine at Wal*Mizzle. Thanks so much for reading!

  13. Can’t believe that you’re giving up 3 things! Way to go! So glad that you whisked Christie off to your house for lunch….it looked yummy!

  14. I L.O.V.E. Dark Chocolate Dreams! I am currently enjoying it with my first ever overnight oats in a jar and raspberries (completely inspired by you)!

I decided for Lent to work on breaking a bad habit – I pick at the skin around my nails . . so much so I draw blood! Bad habit!

Good Luck with your Lenten promises!

Best of luck with your Lenten sacrifices. I have a question. The strap around your leg, below your knee, what is it called and what is it for? Okay, I guess I had two questions.
