Annnnnnd, we’re back.

Wow….spare time….to blog!!!  Where was this hour of opportunity yesterday?!?!  Oh thats right…I don’t even think I had time to exhale…let alone blog!!!!  Depressing!  From teaching my normal classes, to subbing for someone for 3 weeks and picking up all her classes….it’s insane!  Did I mention that our city’s version of Biggest Loser aka “Eight To The Eight’s” kicks off FRIDAY?!?!?!  I am about at max capacity in terms of time limits here.  Shew.  It’s a darn good thing I love my job more than life.  😉

Started off the day with a 5:45am “Insanity” inspired Circuit Class.  Emily and Kim have been doing Insanity on a regular basis, and I wish I had the time to do it with them!  It is full of awesomeness in every sense of the word…..assuming that is an actual word.  😉  Instead of joining them, I have been adding the moves to my classes…which is going swimmingly!  Today’s Circuit Class used absolutely no equipment, and had 12 stations.  We went through each station once, at one minute…and then repeated the circuit.  The last circuit was comprised of 12-1 minute ab workouts.  KILLER!  Also, theres nothing like ending a class with a full out 2 minute suicide drill using the whole gym.  😉  They love to hate me.

Walked back home (loving the fact that I am in walking distance) and met my favorite guy for breakfast.

Ain’t he cute?

Went very random with today’s mix-ins.  They included:

  • Agave Maple Syrup Blend
  • Chia Seeds
  • Dried Bananas
  • Mocha Madness Trail Mix
  • Almond Butter

Totally random.  Totally delicious.

Have I mentioned my un-dying love for my precious trail mix?!?!

Droolsville.

At this point, it was back to the YMC-izzle to teach “Total Body Low Impact” which is basically a strength/cardio full body workout, minus the intense plyometric/jumping movements that I feature in my other classes.  Again, another sweat sesh!

Seemed to have developed a pattern for today.  Teach…eat…teach…eat.  Therefore…it was time for lunch.

New to me flavor of Veggie Burger…this time, Earth Fizzle brand!  This bad boy was sooooo good!  I put it on an Arnold’s Thin with some Light Swiss Laughing Cow, Spinach…and then pressed the whole thing on the George Foreman…

Melty, cheesy, yum.  Also had some Veggie Booty, and a chopped Honey Crisp!

Well.  It is almost 3:00.  You know what that means, right?!?!?!

I have been having them put my protein powder in the Frap when they blend it!  For half price, you can’t beat it.  Plus they are fully customizable now!  I higgggghly recommend the new Mocha Lite.

Well.  Time for a coffee/protein buzz…and then to my other gym for KidFit…and back to the YMCA for Total Body HIIT.  Man, my body is hating me this week! Do as I say, not as I do people! All these high intense workouts (especially weight workouts) should not be done back to back…and definitely not on the same day!  Give your body a rest.

What is your favorite Frappuccino/Starbucks beverage?!  How often do you hit up the Bizzle each week?  If you could invent any flavor of Frapp, what would it be?  I would want some sort of Almond Milk/Protein Powder/Carmel creation….Mmmmm…..

Neapolitan FTW!

It’s Mother’s Day!  How was everyones???  Mine went swimmingly!

This morning, I had oats on the mind…so breakfast was pretty easy.

Chocolate Chia Oats.  Normal oat combination, this time with chocolate Almond Milk, and a big scoop of Almond Butter on top!

At this point I continued to organize stuff in my new heezy.  Did I mention two new additions that finally made the trip to my new casa?!?!

Look at that overbite…..presh.

And can’t forget little Sammy!

Groomer.  Tomorrow.  It HAS to happen.  He is being overtaken by fur!  Eek!

It was then time to do the family thing, and eat a nice Mother’s Day lunch!  I sampled a bit of it all.  Green Bean Casserole, Potatoes, and a mini croissant.

And we all know the best part of the meal involves sugar.  Lots of it, in this case.  Get ready for some Red Velvet lovin’

Meet my arch nemesis, icing.

Pretty sure I would give up Government secrets (assuming I had some juicy ones) for icing.  Thick….old fashioned….sugary icing.  So there.

After cake had been consumed, it was thankfully time to teach Spin….where at least a bite or two was burned off.  😉  Killer class today…thanks to all the people who came out, especially the mommas!

Tired, and completely void of groceries…I headed to Earth Fare with Maggie.  We made a quick pit stop at the Starbizzle where I tried the  Carmel Light Frapp, with a scoop of my protein powder that they gladly blended in with it!

YUM!  The Bizzle is on a new kick right now with Frappacino’s where they will make them however you want!  Any flavor, any milk, any amount of coffee.  Basically the “have it your way” version of a frozen coffe.  Yes, please.  😉  Go check ’em out.

It was then time for Earth Fare, which has adopted a new way to help stay even greener.

No more plastic bags at the Feezy, even if you wanted them!  Yay!  Paper or re-usable…or heck, a box!  😉

Got all my groceries for the week, and again….shopped wisely, and with coupons.  Check out all the goods!

Plus an awesome dinner I built at the hot bar:

Faux Chicken salad with Veggie-Naise….Wheatberry Greek Salad…..and Broccoli Salad.  Yum!

Grand total for the week….

BAM!  😉  See, it can be done!

There is also this cutie that I will more than likely tear into at any second:

Did anyone else ever open their Neapolitan Ice Cream only to find that VANILLA was the only block left?!?!  It used to infuriate me.  This time it is mine, allllll mine!  😉

Well bloggies…time for a nice evening run to help burn off some of that cake from earlier.  Have a great night!

*Exhale*

Hello, bloggies!!!  SO much has happened in the last few days I feel like we need a “previously on…Healthy and Fun” montage.

SO, where did we leave off.

For the first time in my LIFE I am officially on my own. Just recently moved into a house that I will be renting until September.  Fully furnished/ready to go.  It is AMAZING.  I am here…all alone.  I could walk around the entire house in nothing but my birthday suit, and no one would be the wiser (aside from some very confused dogs.)  Pictures of the new pad coming, I promise!

Also, in more exciting news….yesterday was both the Eight To The Eight’s interview process as well as Kathy Griffin live in Knoxville!!!  (insert girl squeal here, please.)

It was so odd being a “judge” for a competition like this.  I used to watch American Idol and think “those judges have it so easy!!!  Why do they need to take breaks?!?!”  Let me tell you.  After asking the same questions 400 times in a row, and sitting in one very uncomfortable seat….it gets exhausting!  Added to the fact that we had about 35+ 10 minute interviews (both couples and individual applicants) with literally about 15 seconds between.  Sheeeeeeew.

That being said….it was totally humbling, and one of the most rewarding/emotional times of my life!  Seeing all these people really putting themselves out there and admitting they need help becoming healthy really just puts things in perspective for me.  We had AMAZING applicants, and I have no idea how we are going to narrow it down to 8 teams.  No idea.  We are meeting for dinner tomorrow to go over applicants one more time (this time with included pictures!) and hopefully we can all come to a decision.

After interview time….one gal was on my mind:

Kathy Griffin LIVE anyone?!?!?!?!

Also, unknown to us….it was being taped for her new stand up special “Kathy Does The Bible Belt” on Bravo June the 8th!!!!  Score!  Make sure to watch/DVR and look for your favorite Blogger Boy doubled over in tears of laughter.  😉

When she started to rip on the show Hoarders…I lost it.  This show is one of my guiltiest pleasures…..and she had everything spot on, including the “cat skeletons” in these peoples homes!!!  If you don’t know what the beauty of Hoarders is………enjoy.

Yea…..fun times.  😉

On the way to Kathy, I munched on a variety of fun eats that I had packed for the road!

This bad boy was a banana/jam/almond butter wrap.  Booyah!

What can I say???  A days worth of interviews works up an appetite!  Starbucks was involved for hydration.  Have I mentioned the love affair I am currently having with the Passion Fruit Tea?!?!

There was also a run in with the infamous booty.

No explanation needed on the deliciousness of these green guys.

And because I wanted to keep the doctor away…

Before we knew it, we had arrived at the Tennessee Theatre!

Look at all the Kathy Fans!!!!  They were wrapped around the building!

Gotta have the signs…

Unfortunately….this is where the camera went bye bye.  They were militant about no cameras due to it being a TV film production, so I wasn’t able to snag any action shots.  In true Kathy fashion…she was absolutely friggin’ HILARIOUS.  Take my word for it.

On the way home from KGriff, I munched on my favorite Luna Bar:

Perfect end to a wonderful evening!!!

This morning was a scorcher!!!  It seemed to already be in the 80*’s at breakfast time….at which point, the Barrel was calling my name hardcore.  😉

Their oatmeal is fannnnnnnnntastic.

Can’t go wrong, right?!

At this point, I went into crazed-man packing mode…and started getting ready for the move.  I was shocked at how much junk I have actually accumulated.  Are you ready for the number of tennis shoes I had at the bottom of my closet?!?!?!?!

….seriously….get ready.

*27* PAIR!!!!!!!  What.  The.  Heck.

WHY does anyone need this many shoes?!?!  I didn’t even realize I had that many!  Needless to say, alot went in the donation pile, and did not make the move.  Perhaps I am more of a “Hoarder” than I gave myself credit for.

Lunch was somehow crammed in my face between clothes/random items being shoved into the car.  Huge bowl of Kashi Go Lean Crunch with raisins, chia seeds, and Almond Milk:

Once my car was filled to the brim with clothes, shoes, and more shoes 😉 I headed to my other gym for our FINAL group run.  It was very sad because this program has been amazing!!!  The “beginner” group has progressed so much, and I am so proud of all of them!!!  Also, it was an absolute scorcher out there today…and I never once heard a complaint.  You guys rock!!  Our big race is this Saturday…cannot wait to run with them and push them along…they will kill it!

After the running program, it was time for a much needed dinner with Maggie, and her adorable nephew, Greyson!

Who needs a high chair when you have a perfectly good lap?!  😉

Went to one of our favorite locations, Jack’s Grill!  Bonus was when we showed up for all day brunch!

Check out this description, and tell me your not in L-O-V-E.

I am not a fan of the flash!!!  It made the broccoli look extremely odd.  Darn you, low lighting!  😉  You get the general idea.  Pretty darn delicious.

Now I am in my NEW home…trying to get everything put away.  Decided blogging was my #1 priority.  I don’t know if that is a good thing, or an extremely sad thing…but it is what it is.  😉

Night bloggies!!!

Did I mention I am literally within WALKING distance of the YMCA now?!?!  Bring it on Monday.  I don’t even need a car.  🙂

Tempeh’ting Sunday

Happy Sunday my little bloggers!  How has the weekend treated you?!?!  All good on my end.  What happens when you oversleep (score) and miss the 10am oatmeal cut off time at Cracker Barrel????

You OBVIOUSLY get pecan pancakes. 😉

I need to oversleep more often, obviously.

Epic fail involved when I forgot my camera at home for the day!!  After breakfast I headed to the YMCA and taught Spin.  Major sweat session.  This CD is sweat gold…I need to mark it as especially hard for future reference!  Right after spin I rushed to my other gym for the running program.  ABSOLUTELY loving it.  I am depressed there are only two more weeks left until the big race!  My group is fannnnn-tastic.  Todays weather was also super conducive to some awesome running:

After running, Hank and Natalie totally twisted my arm into going to the Mellow Mushroom.  😉  Took alot of convincing, let me tell ya.

Normally I got for the pizza, but today the tempeh hoagie caught my eye.  What is tempeh??  Ask, and yee shall receive.  Again…no camera, but yay for cell phone picture!

This bad boy was fantastic!  Company was awesome as well!  Natalie brought her new dog, meet Martini!

Ahhhhh-dorable.

After lunch I met up with Christie for a much needed Starbizzle date.  Stuck with the decaff, because 6:00am BodyPump is calling me name! 😉

Earth Feezy was up next, I was in desperate need of groceries.

All the cool kids put their grocery loot in boxes.  Especially the cool ones who ALWAYS forget their re-usable bags.  D’oh!

Totally used all my coupons, and got all my weeks worth -o- schtuff for…….$47.06!

You can always shop semi-cheap and organic!  Healthy AND Fun.  Get it?!?!  😉

Have a great Sunday bloggers.  I am getting ready to make a weeks worth of Steel Cut oats in the crock pot, thanks to a suggestion from a dear friend!  Can’t wait to see how they turn out!

Who knew you could”patent” a seed?

Watched Food, Inc. today.  Wow.  More on that in just a bit.

After 6am Spin…Circuit Craze…and another Spin….I was more than ready for lunch.  Pizza was calling my name!  Started out with a FlatOut wrap:

Topped this bad boy with some Earth Fare brand pasta sauce…spinach…shroom babies…and some Fat Free Mozz.  There also may have been a sprinkly or twenty-four of crushed red pepper.  😉

Pre bake:

10 minutes later….lunch!

Snacks for the day included the new Dannon greek yogurt, as well as some puffed millet cereal!  Totally diggin’ on this stuff!

More eats (consumed later…I promise) consisted of a two part dinner!

Part one before my appointments came in:

Mushroom, Spinach, and Mozz sammie on a wheat pita.  I saw my co-worker/love-o-my life Christie eating something similar to this earlier today at work…and knew I wanted to recreate it for dinner!

Part two included a mini salad from Panizzle.  Fuji Chicken Apple salad..sans the chicken.  There was also the classic hunk of whole wheat baguette deliciousness.

And a dessert that rocked the YMCA dowwwwwwwn.  Yep, it was that good.

Strawberries plus this little bit of joy.

Pure amazingness.

———————————–

Moving on to a less palent tantalizing topic.  Food, Inc.

My pal Heather was kind enough to let me borrow this movie to watch!  I have been dying to see it.

Ok.  If I hadn’t been a vegetarian before, I think I would be now.  I had no idea the poor extent to which our food is being produced on a daily basis.

This isn’t to say that meat and/or meat products are the only culprits in this craziness.  Even some of the food that we would normally take for granted: fresh fruit and vegetables, grains, and even SEED!  First of all, who knew that seed could be “patented” and that if you re-seeded a crop from a previous year that “belonged” to a company…that you could be sued for all you are worth (and in most cases…much, much more).  Absolutely ridiculous.  This along with the fact that the VIP’s in these corporations even hold high power positions in the FDA, which can then in turn promote such outright ridiculousness.

Also these poor local “growers” of pigs, chickens, and cows across the country are at the complete mercy of the huge corporations…who will require “upgrades” to their farmers facilities just to ensure that they have to take out more loans to pay for everything.

It was said that the average “grower” (how ridiculous that a farmer is now referred to as a grower…and even more ridiculous that animals can even be “grown”) earns about $18,000 a year…while they are on average in debt up to $500,000 just to “maintain” the facilities.

It was alot to think about, that is certain.

What are your thoughts on this movie?  What about your thoughts in general about non-organic/natural foods?  It has seriously made me even re-consider going to Kroger/Wal*Mart to get “cheaper” things that I don’t buy organic/natural at Earth Fare.  Are the lower prices really worth what the food is doing to our bodies and our nation?

Refund?!?!

Have you ever been in a movie so awful….so terrible….so mind-numbingly bad that you asked for a refund?!?!

Well, it happened last night.

“Hot Tub Time Machine” was hands down the worst movie I have ever had the mis-fortune of watching half of.  Now, I can horse laugh at “stupid” comedies with the best of them.  Hello, I adore “Dumb & Dumber” but this was just taken to an extreme.  Nudity, the f bomb every other word…just a plain awkward movie to even sit in!  It was raunchy, un-funny…and had no plot.

Now, I am a pretty laid back guy 98.4% of the time.  I can easily let things go…go with the flow, etc, etc.  This was just plain AWFUL!  Emily and I kept looking at each other throughout the movie commenting on how horrible it was, til I eventually got up and asked about the refund policy.  We now have refund tickets to see a, hopefully, not horrendous movie.

DO NOT SEE HOT TUB TIME MACHINE!

There, off of my soap box.

To counteract the negative movie non-sense…here are some positive Sunday vibes…Cracker Barrel style!

There was also some liquid energy consumed to fuel a full day of workouts:

I came home and went on a mini-OCD induced cleaning rampage post Barrel.  I think the coffee sparked me to be so productive.  I am actually moving in about 2 weeks, and have not even started to think about packing.  I still live with the rents (go ahead…chuckle now) so I don’t have *that* much stuff to move, but it will still be a pain!  I am so excited though!  Having my own house will be a complete and utter shock to my system, in a great way!

Cleaning worked up an appetite…and another Veggie Burger was high on the list of things to eat. 😉

Gardenburger with swiss, red pepper flakes, and spinach on what proved to be a deeeeeelicious new bread I picked up recently:

Lunch at the computer always proves to attract jealous on-lookers.

On the agenda today:

  • Spin Class @ 2:00pm (I am going old school and using one of my very first CD’s just for fun!)
  • Running Program @ 3:30pm (Fun times!!!  I love coaching people on how to *love* running)
  • Fun Times with Maggie!  (Indian food…shopping……more running?!!?  Who knows.)
  • Earth Feezy Trip (I am dangerously low on fruit/veggies/random items of joy)

Well….Sunday is calling…get out there, and get it crackin’!!!!

What is the WORST movie you have ever seen?

Embrace Your Inner Hippie.

I’m pretty much that was the theme of the day yesterday, which I love….love….LOVED!

We started our Asheville adventure bright and early and headed out, Mountain bound!

Ok, Ok.  Technically Asheville is only like an hour away…but you know I couldn’t resist some snacks for the road!

I was diggin’ on the Hermit’s!  Bought them because I knew Emily had enjoyed them, and said they reminded her of Christmas!  I am all about some Christmas tastes!  She was right!  Yum!

Maggie and I also split my FAVORITE bar pre-downtown festivities!

We were ready to shop!

There was one slight problem.  It was FAH-reezing.  Granted, it was sunny and glorious, but the wind made it feel like winter time!  Brrrr!  FAIL!

Despite the frigid weather, Asheville was beautiful!

We went from shop to shop trying to avoid the cold wind!  There were tons of unique little gift shops, and I must say….it was hard not to adapt the “hippy” frame of mind!  I was digging it!

Speaking of digging.  After walking around in the arctic tundra for a while, we finally found Greenlife Grocery!

(check us out in the reflection!)  This place was so much fun!

Very Earthfare-esque.  ❤

BOOTY!!!!  Too bad I have 3 un-opened bags.  😉

Also, check out this yumminess:

I just wanted to open my mouth underneath, and let the choco-peanut goodness start a’ flowin’.

I also grabbed one of my favorrrrrrite items, of which Ashlei introduced me to a couple of months back…

Coconut Butter anyone?!?!

After leaving the grocery store, we also spotted some killer graffiti.

Cause this is thriiiiiilllllllaaaaahhhh, thriiilllaaaaahhhh niiiight!

After shopping, braving the cold winds, and walking…it was time to eat!  This place was full of fun restaurants, but we decided to go with an ALL veggie option, which I knew was going to be an instant win.

Check out their website for more information!  This place used to be located under a YMCA…which warmed my heart that much more!

It was so overwhelming having an entire MENU to choose from rather than 2 or 3 options.  So nice!  I was literally torn on what to get!  The menu was so expansive and impressive.

My eyes kept floating back to one particular dish…

The waitress also told me since it was my first visit, I had to try their special jalapeno/onion french fries.  Sounded like a plan to me!

This was so good, I’m not even sure if words will suffice.  The root vegetables were cooked perfectly, and blended so well with the sauce.  Speaking of SAUCE….the light and almost buttery sauce covered the entire dish, and the wheat ciabatta underneath soaked it up like a flavor sponge.

Then there were the spicy fries:

Wow.

Spicy/Crispy peppers and onions = Tyler found his happy place.

Seriously, I am moving here.

Hippies….Vegetarian Eats….URBAN OUTFITTERS.

Dear Asheville, where have you been all my life?!?!?!

Sadly, it was time to head home, but not before hitting up their local Earth Feezy!

Where I picked up a nice Vegan Chocolate Chip cookie, for the road!

Check out the scenery!  Maggie and I were trying to determine what this chapel like structure was!  Still couldn’t figure it out.

Who knows.

By the time we got back home, I needed some caffeine replenishment.

I swear, there was coffee in there at some point.

Dinner time rolled around and we were both craving Indian food!  Sahib time!

We split the Aloo Gabi (Cauliflower), and the Baingan Bartha (Eggplant)

Deeeeee-licious.

Then, as if we hadn’t had enough excitement…we met up with our friend Melissa, and went to see the new Steve Carrel movie, Date Night.

Hilarious!!!

(now let us fast forward 8 hours, after Tyler finally gets to sleep.  Don’t you just love the magic of Blog-O-Vision?!)

Breakfast was a delicious and random mixture:

Best part was the strawberries the size of my FACE!

I started my bowl with some PB Puffins and Granola from the Feezy…

I then covered the dry mixture with rasp/strawberries and then covered in Almond Milk

Yummmmm. Cold cereal on hot days = love.  Poor Mr. Quaker is probably angry that I have been forgetting him as of late.

2 seconds later…

And *that* my friend….ends a pretty ADD/crazy post.  Hope you enjoyed.

It is sunny….Saturday, and gorgeous.  If you aren’t stuck inside working like I am, get out and enjoyyyyy it!
