Who knew you could”patent” a seed?

Watched Food, Inc. today.  Wow.  More on that in just a bit.

After 6am Spin…Circuit Craze…and another Spin….I was more than ready for lunch.  Pizza was calling my name!  Started out with a FlatOut wrap:

Topped this bad boy with some Earth Fare brand pasta sauce…spinach…shroom babies…and some Fat Free Mozz.  There also may have been a sprinkly or twenty-four of crushed red pepper.  😉

Pre bake:

10 minutes later….lunch!

Snacks for the day included the new Dannon greek yogurt, as well as some puffed millet cereal!  Totally diggin’ on this stuff!

More eats (consumed later…I promise) consisted of a two part dinner!

Part one before my appointments came in:

Mushroom, Spinach, and Mozz sammie on a wheat pita.  I saw my co-worker/love-o-my life Christie eating something similar to this earlier today at work…and knew I wanted to recreate it for dinner!

Part two included a mini salad from Panizzle.  Fuji Chicken Apple salad..sans the chicken.  There was also the classic hunk of whole wheat baguette deliciousness.

And a dessert that rocked the YMCA dowwwwwwwn.  Yep, it was that good.

Strawberries plus this little bit of joy.

Pure amazingness.

Moving on to a less palent tantalizing topic.  Food, Inc.

My pal Heather was kind enough to let me borrow this movie to watch!  I have been dying to see it.

Ok.  If I hadn’t been a vegetarian before, I think I would be now.  I had no idea the poor extent to which our food is being produced on a daily basis.

This isn’t to say that meat and/or meat products are the only culprits in this craziness.  Even some of the food that we would normally take for granted: fresh fruit and vegetables, grains, and even SEED!  First of all, who knew that seed could be “patented” and that if you re-seeded a crop from a previous year that “belonged” to a company…that you could be sued for all you are worth (and in most cases…much, much more).  Absolutely ridiculous.  This along with the fact that the VIP’s in these corporations even hold high power positions in the FDA, which can then in turn promote such outright ridiculousness.

Also these poor local “growers” of pigs, chickens, and cows across the country are at the complete mercy of the huge corporations…who will require “upgrades” to their farmers facilities just to ensure that they have to take out more loans to pay for everything.

It was said that the average “grower” (how ridiculous that a farmer is now referred to as a grower…and even more ridiculous that animals can even be “grown”) earns about $18,000 a year…while they are on average in debt up to $500,000 just to “maintain” the facilities.

It was alot to think about, that is certain.

What are your thoughts on this movie?  What about your thoughts in general about non-organic/natural foods?  It has seriously made me even re-consider going to Kroger/Wal*Mart to get “cheaper” things that I don’t buy organic/natural at Earth Fare.  Are the lower prices really worth what the food is doing to our bodies and our nation?

Embrace Your Inner Hippie.

I’m pretty much that was the theme of the day yesterday, which I love….love….LOVED!

We started our Asheville adventure bright and early and headed out, Mountain bound!

Ok, Ok.  Technically Asheville is only like an hour away…but you know I couldn’t resist some snacks for the road!

I was diggin’ on the Hermit’s!  Bought them because I knew Emily had enjoyed them, and said they reminded her of Christmas!  I am all about some Christmas tastes!  She was right!  Yum!

Maggie and I also split my FAVORITE bar pre-downtown festivities!

We were ready to shop!

There was one slight problem.  It was FAH-reezing.  Granted, it was sunny and glorious, but the wind made it feel like winter time!  Brrrr!  FAIL!

Despite the frigid weather, Asheville was beautiful!

We went from shop to shop trying to avoid the cold wind!  There were tons of unique little gift shops, and I must say….it was hard not to adapt the “hippy” frame of mind!  I was digging it!

Speaking of digging.  After walking around in the arctic tundra for a while, we finally found Greenlife Grocery!

(check us out in the reflection!)  This place was so much fun!

Very Earthfare-esque.  ❤

BOOTY!!!!  Too bad I have 3 un-opened bags.  😉

Also, check out this yumminess:

I just wanted to open my mouth underneath, and let the choco-peanut goodness start a’ flowin’.

I also grabbed one of my favorrrrrrite items, of which Ashlei introduced me to a couple of months back…

Coconut Butter anyone?!?!

After leaving the grocery store, we also spotted some killer graffiti.

Cause this is thriiiiiilllllllaaaaahhhh, thriiilllaaaaahhhh niiiight!

After shopping, braving the cold winds, and walking…it was time to eat!  This place was full of fun restaurants, but we decided to go with an ALL veggie option, which I knew was going to be an instant win.

Check out their website for more information!  This place used to be located under a YMCA…which warmed my heart that much more!

It was so overwhelming having an entire MENU to choose from rather than 2 or 3 options.  So nice!  I was literally torn on what to get!  The menu was so expansive and impressive.

My eyes kept floating back to one particular dish…

The waitress also told me since it was my first visit, I had to try their special jalapeno/onion french fries.  Sounded like a plan to me!

This was so good, I’m not even sure if words will suffice.  The root vegetables were cooked perfectly, and blended so well with the sauce.  Speaking of SAUCE….the light and almost buttery sauce covered the entire dish, and the wheat ciabatta underneath soaked it up like a flavor sponge.

Then there were the spicy fries:

Wow.

Spicy/Crispy peppers and onions = Tyler found his happy place.

Seriously, I am moving here.

Hippies….Vegetarian Eats….URBAN OUTFITTERS.

Dear Asheville, where have you been all my life?!?!?!

Sadly, it was time to head home, but not before hitting up their local Earth Feezy!

Where I picked up a nice Vegan Chocolate Chip cookie, for the road!

Check out the scenery!  Maggie and I were trying to determine what this chapel like structure was!  Still couldn’t figure it out.

Who knows.

By the time we got back home, I needed some caffeine replenishment.

I swear, there was coffee in there at some point.

Dinner time rolled around and we were both craving Indian food!  Sahib time!

We split the Aloo Gabi (Cauliflower), and the Baingan Bartha (Eggplant)

Deeeeee-licious.

Then, as if we hadn’t had enough excitement…we met up with our friend Melissa, and went to see the new Steve Carrel movie, Date Night.

Hilarious!!!

(now let us fast forward 8 hours, after Tyler finally gets to sleep.  Don’t you just love the magic of Blog-O-Vision?!)

Breakfast was a delicious and random mixture:

Best part was the strawberries the size of my FACE!

I started my bowl with some PB Puffins and Granola from the Feezy…

I then covered the dry mixture with rasp/strawberries and then covered in Almond Milk

Yummmmm. Cold cereal on hot days = love.  Poor Mr. Quaker is probably angry that I have been forgetting him as of late.

2 seconds later…

And *that* my friend….ends a pretty ADD/crazy post.  Hope you enjoyed.

It is sunny….Saturday, and gorgeous.  If you aren’t stuck inside working like I am, get out and enjoyyyyy it!

Rainy Day.

I guess I can live with a little rain today considering we have had yah-maaaazing weather for over a week.

Woke up to some rain so needed to put a spring in my step…breakfast style!  I wanted waffles!

Added a little protein boost by mixing some Chocolate Soy Yogurt with a scoop of my favorite Protein powder.  Made the perfect “filling” in between the waffle sammie.

Now *this* is what I call breakfast.

I covered the top with strawberries, and then the sides with my millet-nola.  😉

Holy yum.

After breakfast I worked on more Eight To The Eight’s stuff, and also worked on a killer routine for Total Body HIIT tonight!  Cannot wait!  We are going to be killllllling lower body.  I am borrowing/stealing alot of my P90X DVD moves.  Mason Chops anyone?!?!

Apparently the dogs take full advantage of the rainy weather to be more lazy than normal.

This time they were both under the blanket!  What a life.

And I love how they do not even move/pose/react when I go in for the super shots:

Models?!?!  I think so.

Before long, lunch was calling my name.  I was completely clueless on what I wanted.  I am severely low on fruits veggies, and need to make a produce stop asap.  That being said, I embraced my inner breakfast lover…and made some oatmeal!  It was the standard chia oat recipe…but this time I introduced a new friend that everyone MUST.  TRY.  NOW.  Like seriously…stop whatever you are doing, put on some approrpriate clothes (however you define that) and go GET this stuff.

LIQUID HEAVEN IN A BLUE BOX.

I immediately though of my wittle Emily and her half and half love.  GIRL, you have got to so get some of this, and if you don’t…..I will for you!

So I made my oats…topped with some walnuts and dried berries, and then drenched the top in a bath of coconut lovin’:

Probably the equivalent of around 3 tbsp of the milk, or a mere 30 calories!!!!!!

Once stirred it became that much more wondermous:

That is some goodness right there.  Holy yummville.

Well, off to do my KidFit class (I came up with an awesome obstacle course for us to run!) and then back to the YMC-izzle for Total Body!  Gonna be a great night! 😉

I leave you with the disgustingness that is KFC’s option of a “low carb alternative”  I was absolutely appalled when I read about this yesterday.  I give you….the “Double Down”

Is there any wonder America eats like they do?!?!  They think things like this are “exciting” and “cute”.

Ugh.

Picnic Antics.

When the weather is beautiful, I want to LIVE outside.  Which is why I jumped at the opportunity for a lunch picnic with Christie today after Express Spin (sweat FACTORY!)

Vegan Chocolate Coconut Scone (say that three times fast AND without drooling.) Strawberries, and some Siggi’s!

Do we even need to TALK about how good this was?!?!  Seriously.  If food is a drug which I sometimes believe, then I want to melt this down on a spoon…and inject it into my body on a thrice daily basis.  (A bit graphic, but you get the general gist)

Siggi’s was great as always!

Christie thought it was funny how my Yogurt varieties were broadening.  First Greek, now Icelandic…where to next?!?!  😉

It was the perfect picnic date!

Good food, good scenery.

After some lunch, we headed down to the Starbizzle, which I am fully keeping in business by purchases of Passion Fruit Tea, and Iced Coffees.

Sipping Starbucks while tanning AND laughing?!?!  Sounds pretty ballin’ to me.

Headed back to the YMC-izzle for a much needed shower! (Did I mention my water has been out at my house for 2 days?!?!  Yikes.)

Once work had begun, it was time to snack pre-dinner:

That is some pure, chocolate, chia, lovin.  (sorry for the blurriness.)

Other than that…the night was purely un-eventful.  Worked on more stuff for Eight To The Eight’s, and munched on this Taco Salad BEAST from Salsarita’s for dinner:

PS, I love their idea of “light cheese”  ahh well.

Friday is IN SIGHT bloggies, let’s hold it together.  😉

Knee Update.

Well, while I thought my knee was doing semi “ok” it has flared up in a maaaaajor way this morning, almost to the point where I couldn’t finish spin class.  I have bitten the bullet, and am going to the doctor (Physical Therapist) today to have him look at it…so wish me luck!  I am hoping beyond all hopes that it is not something that requires me to take “time off” because working out = Tyler’s paycheck (or lack there of).  😦  We shall see.  On to more inspiring news…such as the mini clif I inhaled at crack thirty in preparation for 5:45am spin.

Headed to spin, felt fine for the first 40 minutes or so, then the knee began killlllllling me.  It is the only time I have ever been counting down the minutes until class was over.  Depressing, blah.  Theres no swelling, and the pain is below the left knee…but it feels like it is deep inside.  I can only describe it like a piercing feeling that just jabs harder when I put pressure on the foot, go up or down stairs, or do the pedaling motion in spin class.  Sad times indeed.  Hopefully the Doc can tell me what is going on later.

Came home and prepared a breakfast that made me almost completely forget my knee pain.  Yep, it was that yummy.  Started with the Millet-lovin’

Then made a nice bath for it to swim in, pre-pan.

Soaked the bread in the egg mixture, and then put those babies in the pan!  (forgot to add the massive amounts of flax seed to the above picture. )

While the French Toast browned on both sides, I chopped up some strawberries and a huge mango:

Also heated up the STAR ingredient in the microwave…

Ashlie gave me this bad boy last night in class, and I could not wait to use it (obv. 😉 ) It is so fun to finally meet a blogger.  Crazy that we lived so close.  We are already planning Tampa trips (your coming too, Krucker and Emily) and visits to Earth Fare!!!  She also has a VitaMix that we get to play with!  I am so stoked!  Back to the toast. 🙂  I browned it up, and smeared the heated coconut butter on top.  Are you drooling yet???  Because I am, and I have already EATEN it.

Dear.  Sweet.  Big Bird.      This was amazinggggggg!  I have to get a big jar of that coconut butter, stat.  Hurry up and get back from Florida, Ashlie…we have some trips that need to occur. 😉  Sad times followed when I realized my mini jar was already gone!

I’m tempted to do the world’s smallest “Oat’s In A Jar” with this. haha

Also, Sam was craving a mango.

And yes, he got it.

Ahh, to live the lives of dogs.  Look at them!

On that note, it is time for lunch.  I am meeting my dad at one of my favorite Mexican places, Salsaritas!  I refer to it as a “Mexican Subway” because it is basically a build your own burrito joint.  Totally yummy.  Check it out, here.

Also, remember…the OIKOS Greek Yogurt giveaway is still on!  Enter in this post by commenting, telling why you want to receive the Greek Yogurt.  Make sure to provide a contact (i.e. Email)  Winner will receive 4 small containers, one large container, and a super cute tote bag.  One vote per person, and voting ends Sunday at midnight!  😀  Happy voting!

Time for lunch, and then the doctor.  I am still five years old and despise the doctor.  Maybe I can get a sticker or candy out of it.  😉  Wish me luck!

Also, for the Survivor fans out there.  Was that Tribal Council last night awesome or what?!?! I love me a good blindside.
