Annnnnnd, we’re back.

Wow….spare time….to blog!!!  Where was this hour of opportunity yesterday?!?!  Oh thats right…I don’t even think I had time to exhale…let alone blog!!!!  Depressing!  From teaching my normal classes, to subbing for someone for 3 weeks and picking up all her classes….it’s insane!  Did I mention that our city’s version of Biggest Loser aka “Eight To The Eight’s” kicks off FRIDAY?!?!?!  I am about at max capacity in terms of time limits here.  Shew.  It’s a darn good thing I love my job more than life.  😉

Started off the day with a 5:45am “Insanity” inspired Circuit Class.  Emily and Kim have been doing Insanity on a regular basis, and I wish I had the time to do it with them!  It is full of awesomeness in every sense of the word…..assuming that is an actual word.  😉  Instead of joining them, I have been adding the moves to my classes…which is going swimmingly!  Today’s Circuit Class used absolutely no equipment, and had 12 stations.  We went through each station once, at one minute…and then repeated the circuit.  The last circuit was comprised of 12-1 minute ab workouts.  KILLER!  Also, theres nothing like ending a class with a full out 2 minute suicide drill using the whole gym.  😉  They love to hate me.

Walked back home (loving the fact that I am in walking distance) and met my favorite guy for breakfast.

Went very random with today’s mix-ins.  They included:

  • Agave Maple Syrup Blend
  • Chia Seeds
  • Dried Bananas
  • Mocha Madness Trail Mix
  • Almond Butter

Totally random.  Totally delicious.

Have I mentioned my un-dying love for my precious trail mix?!?!


At this point, it was back to the YMC-izzle to teach “Total Body Low Impact” which is basically a strength/cardio full body workout, minus the intense plyometric/jumping movements that I feature in my other classes.  Again, another sweat sesh!

Seemed to have developed a pattern for today.  Teach…eat…teach…eat.  Therefore…it was time for lunch.

New to me flavor of Veggie Burger…this time, Earth Fizzle brand!  This bad boy was sooooo good!  I put it on an Arnold’s Thin with some Light Swiss Laughing Cow, Spinach…and then pressed the whole thing on the George Foreman…

Melty, cheesy, yum.  Also had some Veggie Booty, and a chopped Honey Crisp!

Well.  It is almost 3:00.  You know what that means, right?!?!?!

I have been having them put my protein powder in the Frap when they blend it!  For half price, you can’t beat it.  Plus they are fully customizable now!  I higgggghly recommend the new Mocha Lite.

Well.  Time for a coffee/protein buzz…and then to my other gym for KidFit…and back to the YMCA for Total Body HIIT.  Man, my body is hating me this week! Do as I say, not as I do people! All these high intense workouts (especially weight workouts) should not be done back to back…and definitely not on the same day!  Give your body a rest.

What is your favorite Frappuccino/Starbucks beverage?!  How often do you hit up the Bizzle each week?  If you could invent any flavor of Frapp, what would it be?  I would want some sort of Almond Milk/Protein Powder/Carmel creation….Mmmmm…..

Foot RX 5K!

Wow, can I just tell you how good it felt to RUN in a race this morning?!  This was my first competitive race since the Florida Half Marathon, where I was battling some major knee issues.  After some Physical Therapy….stretches…and some major time off from running, I am slowly getting back into it…today being my first race!

This was actually the race that my running group has been training for for the past 6 weeks!  I was the beginner coach, and it was so amazing see my runners progress over the weeks.  Decided that I was going to run the race at a fast pace…and then I could always go back and finish up with some of my group!

Started the day with some pre-run fuel!

Kashi Go Lean Crunch, Nana, Chia Seeds, and Almond Milk

(note to runner’s racers…..milk is glorious, and super delicious.  I love my cereal with a big bowl of skim milk, HOWEVER….race day…it may prove to be your enemy.  Dairy products have a tendency to cause panic in your digestive systems when running on a full stomach.  So on these days, opt for some Almond/Soy/Hemp/Rice milk instead of the cow stuff, k?)

Chia goodness, I tell ya.

What a day for a race!

Weather was perfect!  It was way more crowded than I expected.

Then it was go time!!!

This course is a tough one.  Pretty hilly, and the hills just keep rolling on and on!  There are two especially rough ones at the beginning, and right before the finish line.  Ouch.

It felt amazing to run back at my old speed/pace.  For short races like this I try to do at least an 8:00 minute mile, or better.  I didn’t have my Garmin with me today…so I just ran as fast as I could on the knee.

Not going to lie, this race kicked my booty!  This was the first time I had run “fast” since Florida…and my body knew it!  Bad part was, I kept seeing friends/co-workers along the course….so I felt the extra pressure to perform.  😉

When I turned around the last massive hill, I saw my time….22:08!!!!!  I was stoked!

Also, my dads birthday was a couple of weeks ago…and as a present, I registered him for this race.  He has been slowly running more and more, and I knew he was itching to do an “official” race.  He rocked it out with a 33:20 time!!!

Steph also was along for the ride, and volunteered to help out on the course!  She also got a free shirt, and snacks after.  Not bad for a days work, eh?

Once we had gotten home, and I checked the official chip times/results online…I was shocked!

Two Part Breakfasts.

When I am forced to wake up at 4:30am and open the YMCA….to things tend to brighten my morning.

A) Coffee.  Lots.

B) Breakfast!

Started out with a couple (hundred) cups of coffee..and breakfast, part 1!  Some Optimum Slim cereal with dried kiwi, almond milk, and a nana.

As much as I despise the initial waking up part of the morning, once my feet hit the floor, I am good to go.  There are several aspects of early mornings that I do find quite groovy, including the potential for productivity which was surprisingly accomplished today!  I worked on the blog for Eight To The Eights as well as planned my Total Body Class tonight (we are doing the Accumulator which is basically a backward pyramid style workout).  Before I knew it, it was time for breakfast part 2, which I started preparing last night after seeing this sad sight:

Almost empty jar of Almond Butter = Overnight Oats In A Jar time!!!!  🙂

This baby contained:

  • 1/2 Cup Oats
  • 1/2 Cup Almond Milk
  • 2 TBSP Chia Seeds
  • 3 TBSP Chilean Raisins
  • Handful Chopped Walnuts

The key to these oats is to prep the night before, stick it in the fridge…and forget about it overnight.

So creamy and good!  I love it cold, but you can always heat it up.  Whatever rocks your world.  😉

Also…since I was at work until 9:30pm last night, and back at 4:45am…I didn’t really have ample time to blog.  Needless to say, here is a brief recap of last nights dinner shenanigans.  Panera, my wallet curses you for being so close and/or delicious.

Also…found out some amazing news this morning, courtesy of our President! 😉

Buried deep in the health care legislation that President Obamasigned on Tuesday is a new requirement that will affect any American who walks into a McDonald’s, Starbucks or Burger King. Every big restaurant chain in the nation will now be required to put calorie information on their menus and drive-through signs.

What do you think about restaurants (especially chain/fast food) being forced to list their calories, even on the drive-thru menus?  I am personally ecstatic, and can only hope that some of those numbers will “scare” people into choosing healthier options.  Do you think it will make a difference?

Breakfast Two-A-Days

C’mon…..you know you want breakfast twice in one day.

My day began early when I met Kim and Emily at the gym for an amazing weight session!  Whipped up a protein shake to chug…half pre-gym, and the other half post.

Got some good weights in:

  • Chest Press
  • Bicep Curls
  • Tricep Dips
  • Deadlifts With Row
  • Shoulder Raises (lateral/front)
  • Squats
  • Walking Lunges
  • Side Squats (With Band)
  • ABS (which were forced upon my by Krucker)

Where I promptly came back to the hizzouse (Starbucks may have been somewhere involved during the in between time…but who am I to tell.) for my first breakfast of the day…Chia Oats!

  • 1/2 Cup Oats
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk
  • 2 TBSP Chia Seeds
  • 1 Truvia Packet

I made them on the stove-top today!

Topped these bad boys with a big dollop of Almond Butter (no drizzle today…wanted the blobbage), and some fantasmic mocha marble trail mix:

Twas a chocolate/nutty/chia mess of joy.

Today was so gorgeous outside, which makes me extremely happy.  Like, to the max.  Ran some errands and picked up part of Maggies Birthday present!  We are celebrating tonight at Stir Fry, can’t wait!!!

Came home for breakfast round two (aka lunch), because quite frankly….it’s exactly what I wanted.

Made a strawberry sauce by dicing up some berries, and cooking them over medium heat with some Polaner All Fruit, and some chia seeds to thicken it:

Once the berries popped, I let the sauce cool, and then topped the waffles. Yummmmm-o.

Sam has been lazy all day.  Look at this pose:

Well, I have thought about it….

…and you still don’t get to know yet.  😉

To blow….or not to blow.

…..that, is the question.

I have done two spin classes today, and had fan issues.  More at the end -o- the post, and I am looking for blogger input!

Breakfast today was non-oatmeal related!!!!  I know, I know…it is scary.  Don’t worry though, I did manage up to whip up some deliciousness.

I picked up some new English Muffins that I wanted to try, and decided I was in the mood for some eggs!

I love how dogs want everything, including raw eggs.

Scrambled the egg up in a pan with some Natural Cheese Blend.  You haven’t lived until you have had cheese eggs, c’mon people.

Got some fruit goin’…

To top the muffins, I used my homemade Organic Pumpkin Butter that my friend Matt made, and some Polaner!

And, yes…I am that guy who puts ketchup on his eggs!

Deeeeeeeeeeeee-friggin-licious.  Seriously, amazing breakfast!  I was proud.  Mr. Quaker, I love you….and I will see you tomorrow.  Why do I feel like I have cheated on my spouse, by NOT having oatmeal today?!?!  I feel like he is staring at me from across the room, with a hidden yet detectable evil glare.

He knows I ate eggs, and he is angry.  Look at that grin.  *shutters*

Moving on!

A snack was my favorite Z-Bar before my second Spin class of the day:

To which I came back (covered in sweat!) and whipped up a nice, fresh, fruity lunch.  Again, I am the carb/fruit/sugar KING, and will scream it from the mountains if I must!

It was cereal/fruit bowl time!  Started out with a Chia Pudding base.  I mixed 1 TBSP of Almond Butter with 1 Cup Almond Milk, and whisked it together..

I let this little concoction get nice and thick (the Chia seeds absorb SO much water) while I chopped up a mango, and some strawberries:

Added half a cup each of my two new cereals for the week:

To the thickened “pudding” I added the cereal, and the fruit:

Both of these get two huge thumbs up.  I have never had an Annie’s product  that I haven’t loved and/or scarfed down instantly.  The brown rice tasted like rice krispies, and even had the bowl of goodness singing to me!  😉  Added a DASH of cinnamon.  (yea right.)

Yummy in my yummy.  Fo realz.

Moving on to the title of this post…

In my 5:45am spin class we have these gigantic, AIRPLANE powered jumbo fans that freeze me, as well as practically blow me off my seat.  They are also so audibly loud, that I have to max out the music just so people in the back of the class can hear it.  I have a couple of people who turn the fan on before we even warm up or mount our bikes!  Needless to say, I do not even sweat in class, and freeze the entire time.

Fast forward to my class today at the YMCA.  We have a rule.  If you get hot/sweaty/uncomfortable…get up, and turn the fan on.  If it gets extreme…prop open the door with a weight.  This system works so much better because  I feel like I sweat more, and when I sweat more…I work harder!  There is no better feeling than sweat dripping down my nose, to really get my class going for the day.  Also, even if we do have the fans on, they are smaller…and therefore not hurricane blasting winds like at my other gym.

So what I am asking you guys is this:

Regarding fans (spin class, other classes, workouts in general)…….to blow or not to blow?!?!  What are your opinions on this?

Earth Feezy, Fo Reezy!

Well good morning bloggies!  Yes, I know…it is not technically morning, but just roll with it.

This morning I woke up earrrrly and headed to Johnson City to meet Kim and Emily for a workout sesh.  We were supposed to meet at 6:30…but that roughly turns into to 6:40 in Tyler Land.  By the time I got there, the beasts had already began.

I had a lazy day.  It is technically my only “rest” day of the week…so I just did about 35 minutes on random cardio machines…and some tricep exercises in the free weight room, aka “Man Cave”

After the gym, we all decided Starbucks was required.  Loving the new Dark Cherry Mocha!  (Non-Fat, of course!)

I was starving!  Thank you for teasing me, Starbizzle.

I was able to resist the pastry temptations…and headed to my happy place.

I love coming early, because I have free reign of the place, and can totally go into Grandpa mode and stalk each and every aisle with no time limits!  Sample time!

Try Me?!?!  Don’t mind if I do.

I made my way to the bar aisle, and as I quietly snuck over to the baby department to grab my banana puffs (thats right people, LAUGH it up…Tyler eats baby food)…I got to talking to a super nice employee about shopping in general and the blog!  She seemed so excited!  I hope you are reading _________!!!!! (insert name here. 😉 )

In no time I had a buggy full.

Yes….that’s 3 bags of Veggie Booty.  bwahahahaha

Also, look at all the trail mix!  How is an oatmeal loving fool such as myself supposed to choose just one topper?!?!?!

Finally made it to the checkout, and then headed home.

Got everything I needed except for the Greek Yogurt and Produce…which I will pick up at Wal*Mizzle tonight or tomorrow morning.

It was then time for some oatmeal, dag-gone it.  It was the classic chia-based:

  • 1/2 Cup Oats
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk
  • 2 TBSP Chia Seeds
  • 1 Truvia Packet
  • (Nuke for 2.5 minutes)

When it was done I sprinkled some unsweetened coconut, and drizzled some Almond Butter on top….

The coconut toally made these oats!  Tasted like warm-gooey coconut macaroons!!!!

Speaking of macaroons, does anyone have a simple and delicious macaroon recipe out there?!  This coconut really got me craving them!

Breakfast Buzz.

Nothing like a 5:00am wakeup call to jump start a day, hmm?  Massive amounts of caffeine were most certainly in order.

I drudged my way to the gym and taught Spin…great class!  Kim and Emily came, and we had 7 people, which means the little class is finally picking up steam.  I am so grateful.  It is so odd teaching at the YMCA and having packed houses for each class, and then going to my other gym and having no one!  I have complete faith though that it is still a new class, and I just need to THREATEN people with their lives until we start packing the house out there as well.  😉

After Spin, Emily and I went to Starbizzle where I tried the new Dark Cherry Mocha.  Let me just tell you…this bad boy was fantastic.  When we were in Florida a couple of weeks ago for the Gasparilla Half Marathon, we stayed with Kim’s family and picked up some “Chocolate Cherry Kiss” coffee from Fresh Market and had it while we were down there.  It made the entire house smell wonderfully, so I was instantly reminded of it this morning!  Cherry goodness, I tell you.  This, but no whipped cream…and 2% milk.

Headed home for an oatmeal masterpiece!!!  It was the classic, with some added Chia goodness.

Yep…I am an Almond Butter drizzler.  I know that Julie had some trouble with the drizzle by heating her nut butter up, scorching it!  I keep my Trader Joe’s creamy unsalted Almond Butter in the fridge…and it still remains at a drizzle consistency at all times…check it out:

Which is the perfect topping for some Chia oats!  Along with a fantabulistic chocolate trail mix:

I cannot get over how the Chia adds a completely different texture to the oats, I love it!

Also, while at Starbizzle this morning, I picked up a EARTH-friendly coffee press!

Ok, I now have a press.  What I need from YOU is coffee suggestions!!!!!  What should I buy?!?  What are your favorite coffee blends?
