About Me!

Where to begin?!  After many, many months of reading some of my favorite foody/active girl blogs, I have decided it is finally time for this “blog boy” to start one of his own!  Sheesh, we have alot to talk about and get caught up on so I will start off about 4 years ago.  I weighed 318 pounds and was completely miserable:

My typical meals included TONS of fast food, and anything greasy and/or fried.  I was probably consuming roughly 5,000-6,000 calories per day.  I randomly had to go to the doctor and was told that I was pre-diabetic, and needed to go on high blood pressure medication.  That was enough of a wake up call for me.  I decided right then and there to change my life.  That was my “this is it” click that it took to get my butt in shape, and to do it the right way.  I started working out and eating healthy and dropped the weight over the span of three years.  Fast forward to today:

I am a happy and healthy 180 lbs!  I am not going to say it was easy…far from it.  However, I have never felt better in my life, and try to use my story to inspire others.  I work for the YMCA as their Healthy Living Director, and also teach Group Exercise classes such as Spin and Weight Conditioning.

I am an avid runner and consider it a passion as well.  I just completed my first half marathon last October and actually placed third in my age group!  I was shocked and delighted!  Ran that race with my AMAZING friend Emily who runs the exact same pace as me  (she got FIRST in her age group, and I was totally jealous!).  It was so great having her right by my side the whole time.  Made 13 miles not seem so intense!  Here we are in race glory:

Two friends and I also traveled down to Florida last March where I ran my second half marathon!  Currently looking for a marathon to include in my lineup! 🙂

Thats all I can think of for right now!  Keep it healthy and fun, and you will always be happy!

I love how “clean” eating makes us feels soo good and gives us so much energy. I have 3 girls, and my energies are focused on feeding them whole grain, fruits, veggies, from scratch cooking/avoiding processed foods, and as much organic as possible. I live 5 minutes from Whole Foods, one of my favorite stores.

    Keep up the great work!

  23. Doug

LOVE your blog! And I also LOVE TJ’s and Whole Foods. In fact, I was in one this weekend in NYC and I thoughts I had literally died and gone to heaven. If you like organic foods, vegan, or anything “foodie” this place DOES feel like you’re a kid in a candy store.

You should check out OhSheGlows.com. She’s awesome.

Hey. I’ve also lost over 100 lbs. Did you have any surgeries to remove excess skin? I struggle with feeling like I’m still fat at times because of my loose skin. But I am afraid to have a surgery that is what I consider cosmetic, because I know there is a risk. Just thought I’d ask. Thanks.

  41. Thanks for the follow on twitter. Congrats on all the weightloss. You look great! Can’t wait to read more about you.

  42. WOW! What an inspiring story!! 🙂

  43. Hey there!

Gotta say congrats on your journey! It is the kind of tale that will inspire those that read it.

In an effort to cut out American Style Fast food I started a journey cooking the national dishes of the world in one year. It is amazing how much global “Fast Food” is actually healthy and fun, although it isn’t all fast :)!

    Kuddos and continued success!
