Circuit & OIAJ!

So what do you do when you teach a class with a constantly changing class that expects something different each week?

Circuit Class!

A Circuit Class uses “stations” set up in a large space where the participants slowly make their way through each one at a designated time interval.  This particular class had 9 stations, which they would be at for 1 minute each.  In between each station, participants would do 30 seconds of HIGH intensity cardio.  These short bursts of cardio spike the heart rate briefly, getting that extra calorie burn.  Once the participants go through the circuit completely, I did a 7 minute ab section in the middle….then they did the circuit again.  Fun times!

This type of class allows a variety of exercises, including strength based…cardio…abs, or a combination of two or three!  This class had 9 stations:

  • Chest Flys on Inverted Risers
  • Lunges with Overhead Press on Tubing
  • Tricep Pushups
  • Agility Cone Drills (Suicides/Sprints)
  • Corkscrew Abs
  • Step Jumps
  • Kettlebell Swings
  • Squats (Taken slightly deeper)
  • Bicep Curls (Lower/Upper/Full Range)

We also hit abs in the middle with crunches, planks, oblique twists, etc.  Anything to get those abs burning!

My light nights at the YMCA teaching classes usually mean dinner pulled together quick!  Thats when my bestest pal oatmeal always comes into play. 😉

Oats In A Jar!  The dangerously low level of PB hanging around in this jar was just begging to be turned into the perfect container for my oats!

Last year for Lent (which coincidentally is now!) I gave up ALL meat….and actually ended up going completely vegetarian for almost 8 months!  It was an awesome experience, and although I have slowly started integrating meat back into my diet…I could easily go vegetarian with meals like these.  As I incorporated more weight training into my workouts, meat was necessary…and I love it on occasion (chicken/turkey etc.) however I could leave it just as easy!

Since oats and group ex. have been the two main focus points of this blog…I have 2 questions….

Rainy Day French Toast

what goes better with a dreary day (MONDAY might I add) and rain more than a comforting breakfast?  French Toast was on my mind the instant I woke up.

Theres something about French Toast that really hits that “comfort” button in me.  The eggy/slightly sweet batter with the bread…mmm!

Time to griddle the bad boys up!

Presentation is everything, we eat with our eyes as much as our mouths!

There may have been a dark chocolate chunk or two that found its way into the breakfast. 😉

This was the perfect breakfast to fuel my rainy Monday!

Blogger Boy Healthy French Toast


  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 2 TBSP. Fat Free Half & Half (Skim Milk can also be used here!)
  • 1 TBSP. Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 TSP. Pure Almond Extract

(Whisk this liquid until smooth and pale yellow…then comes the bread…)

  • 2 Slices of your favorite bread!  Mine is a natural wheat bread with added fiber

Spray your pan or griddle with a little organic olive oil spray (who needs to drown it in butter!), and grill on both sides until crispy and brown.  I paired the toast with a sliced banana, and topped with some dark chocolate chunks.  These can be left off if you are behaving on this particular instance. 😉  I also topped mine a drizzle of maple syrup.  I never understood why people DRENCH their french toast/pancakes in syrup.  Not only does it pour on the calories and fat…but it takes away from the flavor of the french toast!

Luckily when it was time for a caffeine pick me up, my friend…and fellow Dunkin Donut Blog Challenge star Ginny was able to maneuver the storm!

I was able to somehow avoid the donuts, and went with my usual Iced Coffee with Skim Milk!  Instant winner in my book.

After the caffeine had kicked in, and I was ready to wage battle on my Monday….I eventually headed back to work and had a pretty boring lunch as far as lunches go.

(my office is currently looking like something out of the set of Hoarders…so please forgive me.)

Went for a Subway sandwich, and some of my new favorite “chips”:

Who needs chips when you can have brown rice crisps?!

PS, did anyone notice the new Lady GaGa video in that first lunch snapshot?  She debuted her new video for “Born This Way” today!  Eek!!!

Giveaway Time!!!! :-D

Thats right folks, it’s my first ever giveaway!!!!!  So stoked.  More details at the end of the post!

After my late breakfast and gorgeous weather outside, I decided to go wash my car.  I have been waiting to do this for a while, because it keeps snowing which means the road salt keeps accumulating everywhere.  So annoying.  Apparently every other person in the universe had this idea, and there were literally about 20 cars waiting for the automatic car wash….so I promptly headed home.  I suppose the car can wait for another day.  I decided for a breakfast inspired lunch…

Fruit/Cereal/Yogurt bowl anyone?!?!  This is seriously one of my favorite meals evaaaaah.

Started off by combining the yogurt and pb, then added the cereal:

Then added my fruit.  (Blueberries, Strawberries, and an apple)  There also may have been a heaping sprinkling of cinnamon involved.

Mix this madness up….

And throw in my favorite lunch companion:

You get a pretty darn successful meal.  Dessert was a handful of Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Edamame (a MUST try)

Did you notice how my lunch companion made the easy transition into dessert companion?!?!  He pretty much loves any and all food, just like his dad.

Finished that off, and then headed to work!  Working nights on Fridays is good in a sense, because I can pack my lunch and not be tempted by yummy food eating out.  Plus I save some moolah.  When dinner time rolled around, it was a veggie burger to the rescue!  Not just any veggie burger…

Took my favorite combo of an Arnolds Thin bun…Boca Veggie Patty…and laughing cow cheese (light swiss, please.)  Combined it with some broccoli slaw!  Such a good combo!  Yumville.  Paired it with some leftover Panera Veggie Soup (ahhh-mazing) and some carrots/hummus:

Late Breakfast

So after Spin class this morning (we had 14, and they rocked it!) I pretty much came home and went back to sleep.  With only 4 hours of sleep last night I was really feeling it when I got home, and collapsed into a 4 hour mini sleep session.  I haven’t slept that late in a loooooong time, but boy did it feel good.  I woke up STARVING.  I am so used to eating my breakfast around 8:00/8:30, that 11:30 was a big difference, and my body knew it.

I was overjoyed to wake up to this weather:

Sun?  What is this spherical heated object of which you speak?!?!  I seriously forgot what it was like to be gorgeous outside.  My brain said one thing:

My knee, unfortunately told me otherwise.  I have self-diagnosed Runner’s Knee and I am trying to do no running until the Half Marathon next weekend.  I am sticking with Spin and Weights until then.  Alas, it is all I can do to not tie up my Mizuno’s and run in the gorgeous weather.  Sad panda time.

I was absolutely ready for a late breakfast and went for the classic:

  • 1 Cup Skim Milk
  • 2 TBSP Trader Joe’s Indulgent Trail Mix
  • 2 TBSP Dark Chocolate PB
  • 1 Banana

Beauty.  I seriously get so excited about oatmeal.  Perhaps a bit too excited.  😉
